I’ve been looking forward to writing this iJoy Captain X3 review for a few weeks now. But I had to put the mod through it’s paces first.
The Captain X3 is a 324W mod that is jam packed with features. One of my favorite things about this mod is its versatility. It can take three 20700 batteries or three 18650s. That’s pretty badass. It’s claim to fame is that it’s the smallest triple 20700 mod.
I was surprised by this mod in more ways than one. Most of the surprises were good, but definitely not all of them.
*This mod was given to me for the purpose of this review. I finally got a free mod lol!*
When I first unboxed this mod, I was a little shocked at how similar it looked to the RX Gen 3. I mean, I knew it was going to look similar but my goodness, it’s darn near a carbon copy. There are some minor details that are different but the body is very similar. It’s bigger than the RX Gen 3 though.
With that said, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. The RX Gen 3 was pretty popular, so it’s no surprise that other companies would want a similar looking mod. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, right?
When I picked it up, it felt really nice and my hand. The housing is lightweight until you plop the batteries in. The word “lightweight” will be a distant memory after that. Overall, I do like the design of this mod. In my opinion, it improves upon the already popular RX Gen 3 design. It has a colored LED screen and a pretty face. The battery venting holes
Who The Captain X3 For
Needless to say, this mod is not going to be a good fit for everyone. To get a mod like this, you have to be a cloud monster or really anal about your battery life.
If chucking clouds is your M.O. then you might want to strongly consider this 324W beast. You’ll be able to chuck clouds with the best of them and able to power any tank on the market. The only other reason I could see getting a mod like this is if you like getting high battery capacity mods so you can vape forever at lower wattages. Whatever tickles your fancy.
If you’re not a cloud chaser or looking for extraordinary battery life, then either you have found another good use for this kit or this kit isn’t a good fit for you. I’d definitely love to know any other reasons to get this kit.
- Wattage Range: 5 – 324W
- Temp Control: 200-600°F (Ti, Ni200, SS)
- 6 second TCR mode
- Dimensions: 79mm x 51mm x 44.6mm
- 2A charging
- Upgradable firmware
- Triple 20700 or triple 18650
- 810 drip tip (510 adapter included)
The Captain X3 is a heavy hitter, no doubt about it. You will be able to pound your coils into oblivion. Your throat will be begging for mercy! But really, it’s a nice performing mod.
I can only take a few hits above 200W. It’s not really my thing. It’s intense! The mod itself fires consistently and powerfully. My only con in the performance area is the slow ramp up time. After your mod has been sitting idle, your first hit might take half a second or so until it fires the coil.
After the mod is warmed up, it fires much faster. Other than that, I don’t have any performance gripes. The mod fits nicely in my hand and I can vape on it all day long at 77W (the sweet spot for me). The Captain X3 slowly but surely crept its way up into my mod rotation. I’ve been using it more and more these days.
Once I got used to the weight of it, I kinda fell in love with it. It’s a solid performer.
The Captain X3 comes with every mode you’d use on a daily basis. And it gives you the ability to upgrade the firmware.
You can use it in variable wattage (VW) mode, temperature control (TC) mode, and TCR curve mode. The TCR curve allows you to control it for 6 seconds. The TC suite allows you to use stainless steel (SS), Ni200, or titanium coils.
The user interface is pretty smooth. It has a color LED display which is a nice little extra. My only gripe with the UI is how slow the counter moves in wattage mode. It takes a while to move it up 50W or 100W, so have a good ebook handy.
- Vape up to 324W
- Can chuck clouds all day long (good battery life)
- Batteries included in kit
- Tank doesn’t leak
- Colored LED display
- Nice wide bore resin drip tip
- Very comfy in hand
- Can also use 18650s instead
- Good airflow
- Slow ramp up time
- Heavy baby, heavy
- Slow at changing the wattage
- Can only fit 26mm or smaller tanks without overhang
The iJoy Captain X3 is no joke. It’s a heavy-hitting mod that will be a reliable workhorse in your rotation.
The main advantages that I liked are the massive 8mL tank capacity, enough wattage to power up any tank, and the super long battery life it offers. Not to mention the batteries come with the kit. The batteries alone a worth half the price of the kit. It’s a steal.
The Captain X3 is best suited for you if you’re a high wattage vaper or you like the idea of not having to charge your mod often. If you’re vaping at lower wattages, this mod will last you all day and maybe some of the next. In a rotation, it’ll last several days without needing a charge.
It’s nice that the mod has 2A fast charging. I’d recommend using an external battery charger, but when you’re on the road or traveling the 2A charging comes in handy.
Overall, this mod definitely gets two thumbs up from me. It’s reliability, consistency, and durability are off the charts.
At the time of this writing, you can get this mod kit for just $69.95 from VaporFi. The batteries alone are worth $30, so this is a basement bargain if you ask me.
